STILLZ: Ignore your heroes

23 February - 25 May 2022
Overview

The artistic project of STILLZ, pseudonym behind the 22-year-old Colombian-American Matías Vásquez, consists of a series of Polaroids of artists with whom he has been involved, both personally and professionally. All the photos in this series are taken with a Polaroid Big Shot from the 1970s, a huge camera that goes with him wherever he goes. The idea behind this collection of snapshots is inspired by Andy Warhol. Warhol used to work with the biggest celebrities of his time and nowadays STILLZ aims to do the same, portraying artists like Kanye West, Rosalía, the late XXXTentacion, Kali Uchis and even Mike Tyson.

In addition to his facet as a photographer, STILLZ is well known as a videoclip director. Founder of the production company We Own the City, he works for the most current artists of the Latin American urban scene such as Bad Bunny, Jhay Cortez or Rosalía. In his videos, he stands out for his references to pop icons far removed from the stereotypes of reggaeton or trap.
