介绍

Horario especial de apertura - Domingo 9 de marzo de 11:00 a 14:00 hs

VETA by Fer Francés is pleased to present La Quinta del Sordo, Matías Sánchez's new solo exhibition at the gallery. It features more than forty new paintings spanning the gallery's three rooms. The title alludes to the estate, near what is now Carabanchel, where Francisco de Goya painted his famous Pinturas negras for himself and lived his last years in Spain. Sánchez's exhibition is not so much a nod to these works as a reflection on the intimate work of each artist. What interests him are those pieces that the painter paints for himself, without any intention of transcendence, just for the pure pleasure of painting.

The work of Matías Sánchez is characterised by the use of contemporary iconography, texts, shapes and colours, which create complex compositions and ironic scenes, always on the borderline between figuration and abstraction. Throughout his career, Sánchez has constructed a technique with deep roots in the history of art, combining influences from other painters such as Goya himself, Philip Guston, George Grosz, Otto Dix, Toulouse Lautrec and Pablo Picasso, among others. These influences and Sánchez's self-taught nature partially explain the freshness and originality of his work.

Matías Sánchez (Germany, 1972)  has exhibited individually in international institutions such as the Powerlong Museum in Shanghai or the CAC Málaga in Spain. Matías will soon participate in TEFAF Maastricht 2025 and has also participated in important international fairs such as Art Busan, Art Central Hong Kong, Taipei Dangdai, MACO, Art Monaco or Art Moscow. His paintings can be found in private and public collections such as the University of Southern California Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Nazem Collection, Beirut; John Marquez Collection, Miami; Miaow Meow Collection, Hong Kong; CAC Málaga, Spain; CAAC Sevilla, Spain; Luc Caurichon, Paris or the S. Goodman Collection, New York among others.
