Atanda Quadri Adebayo: Ori
Past exhibition
Overview
'Ori' is the first show by Atanda Quadri Adebayo at VETA by Fer Francés. In his own words "everyone has a path in the journey of life. We were born without choices. However, when, where, how and from whom we were born are variables for the probability of what our lives would be. I discovered this, and it led me to the concept of Orí (self, literally head) in Yorùbá mythology. Being an artist raised from a mixed religious home, Christian and Alhaji, I have observed closely the rites of self, Orí, in both religions. However, with my research, it is more prominent and valued in Yorùbá traditional cultural rites, often expressed with the figure of the head adorned with cowries. The evaluation of my life's journey and the story of many others got me mesmerized with the concept of Orí and thereby this series of works."
